Ashton
Winger Outduels Sam Seawright to Win Third Roscoe Smith Classic
Title
(July
17, 2025) Similar to Cory Hedgecock on Tuesday at I-75
Raceway, Ashton Winger defended his home turf against the Schaeffer’s
Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing
and fueled by Sunoco competitors on Thursday night at Senoia Raceway
to capture his third career ‘Roscoe Smith Classic’
title! Ashton knocked down the quickest lap in Group B during
FK Rod Ends qualifying and later started the 44-lap headliner
from the outside of the front row. After pacing the field for
the first 27 circuits, third-starting Sam Seawright blasted past
the #12 machine to grab the point on lap 28. (Anthony

Seawright then appeared to be in control and possibly heading
to victory lane at the Senoia, Georgia oval before Winger dive
bombed back into the lead amid lapped traffic on lap 41. The Hampton,
Georgia ace then led the final four laps to emerge victorious
in the exciting back-and-forth battle with Seawright to bag the
$7,544 winner’s check. The victory was Ashton’s second
career Southern Nationals Series win - both coming at Senoia Raceway.
Finishing 0.654 of a second behind at the checkers was runner-up
Seawright, who earned $3,500 for his strong performance. Seventh-starting
Michael Page, who is a teammate to the runner-up Seawright and
who came into the contest as the defending Roscoe Smith Classic
winner, rounded out the podium in third. Dalton Cook blitzed past
twelve competitors to earn Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Hard
Charger honors and a fourth place finish, while Wil Herrington
improved four spots to place fifth in his first Southern Nationals
Series race of 2025.
“I’m glad we are able to keep winning these Roscoe
Smith races,” exclaimed the winning Winger in Schaeffer’s
Oil victory lane. “The Smith family means so much to me
and does so much for me. That was a great battle with my buddy
(Sam) Seawright, we talk on the phone about every other day. He
probably had the better car, but those lapped cars were slowing
his pace and I was able to get by in traffic and hold him off.
I have to thank Jeff Mathews and all of our great partners for
the continued support.”
Ashton Winger piloted a #12 Jeff Mathews Motorsports Rocket Chassis
powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine with sponsorship in part
from RV Select Inc, CURS, Super K Express, Keyser Manufacturing,
Integra Shocks, Angry Elephant Tattoo and Piercing, New Point
Lighting and Design, Crown Security, A-Plus Collision Center,
Little Gator Motorsports, Whooping Creek Construction, GW Performance,
and CSR Aluminum Fabrication.
A total of 34 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series
competitors assembled at Senoia Raceway for the fifth round of
the miniseries. Ashton Winger went quickest in MRP Fantasy League
Hot Laps, while Chris Madden topped the speed chart in FK Rod
Ends qualifying with his fast lap of 14.368 seconds. Series point
leader Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton were victorious in the pair
of Coltman Farms Racing consolation races. Beckham Malone and
Haiden Cowan were awarded series provisionals to start shotgun
on the field in the 44-lap main event, which honored the legendary
Roscoe Smith.
Four caution flags slowed the pace - three of which came before
the first official lap was even in the books. Polesitter Chris
Madden slowed with a flat left rear tire on the initial start
after receiving contact from Sam Seawright. A multi-car tangle
then took place on the ensuing restart, while Shane Clanton slowed
at the top of turns three and four to thwart the third attempted
start of the race. The fourth and final yellow flag of the evening
flew on lap 18 when Trey Mills was sent spinning. The feature
lasted 26 minutes in length with nine drivers completing the entire
distance.
Next up for the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series
presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco will be
a trip to Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia on Friday,
July 18. Round six of the miniseries will shell out a $7,553 first
place prize. Previous winners at the ‘Boro include Chris
Madden ('08), Casey Roberts ('09), Bub McCool ('10), Chris Madden
('12), Jonathan Davenport ('13), Casey Roberts ('14 & '15),
Dennis Franklin ('16), Donald McIntosh ('17), Brandon Overton
x2 ('18), and Carson Ferguson ('22). More information on the Peach
State oval can be found online by clicking on www.SwainsboroRaceway.com.
