Garrett
Smith Records First Career Southern Nationals Series Victory in
Rebel Yell at Screven
(July
19, 2025) Spring Nationals Champion Garrett Smith finally
broke through on Saturday night to capture his first career Schaeffer’s
Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing
and fueled by Sunoco victory at Screven Motor Speedway during
the annual Rebel Yell! Garrett clicked off the fastest lap in
Group A during FK Rod Ends qualifying prior to securing a win
in his heat race. After starting the 53-lap headliner from the
pole position, the Madison, Georgia ace took control at the drop
of the green flag and paced the field throughout the entirety
of the contest. (Anthony Neff Photo)
At the checkered flag, Garrett was celebrating a $10,053 triumph
over runner-up Zack Mitchell, who started fourth on the grid and
finished 2.817 seconds back at the finish. Fourteenth-starting
Kenny Collins improved eleven positions to not only round out
the podium in third, but to also collect the Knowles Race Parts
and Bodies Hard Charger Award. Casey Roberts, who ran as high
as second, finished in the fourth spot, while Steven Roberts claimed
the final position inside of the top five.
Jordy Nipper passed seven cars to finish sixth at the checkers,
while eighteenth-starting Beckham Malone turned in a great performance
to place seventh in the final rundown. Series point leader Jimmy
Owens rebounded from a flat right rear tire on lap 25 to salvage
an eighth place showing. Twentieth-starting Steve Banal moved
up eleven spots to finish ninth, while Kaede Loudy battled back
from a late-race spin to place tenth.
“We fired off pretty good there,” stated the winning
Smith in Schaffer’s Oil victory lane in Sylvania, Georgia.
“I never would have thought the groove would have migrated
down to the bottom in turns one and two that early. The top, I
guess, was getting blasted there at the beginning of the race.
We had a good car, but it’s been so hot (outside). I have
had probably some of the worst luck here recently, but man, finally
got us a win. I love this place!”
Garrett Smith piloted a Garrett Smith Performance #10 Longhorn
Chassis powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine with sponsorship in
part from Atlanta Paving & Concrete, Cadillac Ranch, Chase
Motorsports Coach & Trailer, G Spot Inc., Stanley Printing,
Will Moseley Music, SS Enterprises, VP Racing Fuels, Boswell Oil
Company, JM Custom Laser, Slicker Graphics, Bilstein Shocks, VG
Performance, DirtCarLift, Hoosier Racing Tires, and Schaeffer’s
Oil.
A total of 30 Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series
competitors signed in for round seven of the tour Saturday at
Screven Motor Speedway. Three-time Rebel Yell winner Casey Roberts
was quick right off the trailer, as he laid down the fastest lap
in both MRP Fantasy League Hot Laps and FK Rod Ends qualifying.
Garrett Smith, Steven Roberts, Casey Roberts, and Zack Mitchell
topped the four heat races, while series regulars Kaede Loudy
and Beckham Malone won the pair of B-Mains. Mike Benedum was awarded
a series provisional to start shotgun on the field in the 53-lap
main event.
Five caution flags slowed the pace during the 26th edition of
the Rebel Yell. Gavin Cowan got turned around and hit the wall
on lap 4 to draw the first yellow, while the second caution flag
came on lap 18 for a slowing Allen Styck. Jimmy Owens then slowed
with a flat right rear tire on lap 25 before Wil Herrington was
spun by another competitor on lap 27. The final caution flag flew
on lap 33 when Kaede Loudy went around in turns one and two.
After two days off, the cars and stars racing with the Schaeffer’s
Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing
and fueled by Sunoco will invade Toccoa Raceway on Tuesday, July
22. A $7,553 to win program will be held at the storied Toccoa,
Georgia facility. Jimmy Owens will bring a scant eight point lead
into Toccoa over Garrett Smith, while Kaede Loudy sits only fourteen
markers out in the third spot. Beckham Malone and Mike Benedum
round out the top five in the latest version of the series point
standings exiting Screven. Additional information can be found
